From Monday 3rd February to Sunday 9th February we’re celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week! Children’s Mental Health Week is an annual event in the UK that aims to raise awareness of mental health issues faced by children and young people. This week was launched in 2015 by the children's mental health charity, Place2Be, with the hopes to empower, equip and give a voice to all children and young people in the UK.

Each year, Children’s Mental Health Week has a different theme and this year’s theme is ‘Know Yourself, Grow Yourself’. This theme aims to encourage children, young people and even adults to embrace being self-aware and discover what that means to them. Learning more about yourself can help you grow and develop resilience so you can cope with what life throws at you!
So how do you get to know yourself? Well there are lots of ways you can get more in tune with yourself and your feelings.
Write a journal
Writing a journal can be a great way to express your thoughts and feelings. It can help you process your feelings and is sometimes easier than saying them out loud to someone.
Make a mood tracker
Making a mood tracker and keeping track of your moods can help you to identify patterns in your feelings and understand what can trigger certain moods.

Get creative
Try expressing yourself and your feelings through different types of arts and crafts, you might even find a new hobby.
Make a vision board
A vision board can help you work out what you want to achieve and motivate you to work towards those goals.
Practice mindfulness
Whether that’s through meditation, breathing exercises or the five sense exercise, taking a few minutes to take stock of yourself can help you become aware of your emotions and learn a new coping technique.
Create an ‘About Me’ profile
What’s a better way to get to know yourself than answering questions about yourself?

Children’s Mental Health Week is a reminder that your mental health matters every day. Embrace this year’s theme, ‘Know Yourself, Grow Yourself,’ and take time to focus on what makes you, you. If you’re struggling with mental health issues, talk to a trusted adult such as a family member or a teacher. For more information and resources visit Place2Be or Children’s Mental Health Week.
